Rebranding Netflix = Qwikster

Netflix announced in July that it was separating its streaming movies services from its traditional mail service. The change included a price increase, causing customers who were paying $8/month for both services to begin paying $16/month for both services. This change was met with serious backlash from their customer base. Early reports are showing that Netflix lost over 1 Million members as the price changes took affect.

Today, Netflix announced the second move to this split. They are rebranding the mail service, now calling it Qwikster, and adding video games to the service. With RedBox growing and providing instantaneous gratification at its kiosks for movies and games, this move has to be designed to be offsetting.

I for one do not like the name change. It may be necessary to separate the negative publicity and vibe but this looks like more of a cover up than addressing their real issue, trust.

Update:
As always, The Oatmeal has an awesome cartoon concerning Netflix.

The Thank You Economy

I just received my advanced copy of “The Thank You Economy” by Gary Vaynerchuk which is scheduled to be released on March 8th, 2011.

Gary stays true to his word and I firmly believe that he practices what he teaches in his books.  If you haven’t read “Crush It”, you ought to check it out.

Needless to say, I’ve got new reading material for the weekend. I’ll post an update when I finish it up.

Need a Car, Call Shannon

Each of us have different car needs.  Some manufactures have what you want and others don’t.  It’s going to happen.

But if you are in the market for a Mazda or Subaru, I highly recommend that you check out Vic Bailey Imports in Spartanburg, SC.  Matter of fact, when you go in, ask for Shannon and tell her I sent you (I don’t get a kickback for this).

We have worked with Shannon on multiple deals over the years.  She is a keen listener and takes the time to make sure you get what you need.  She knows the vehicles and if she doesn’t know something about it, she’ll find out.  No making stuff up.

And working with her can be a very quick process. We have built a relationship that allows me to go in there, tell her what I’m trying to accomplish, and can be on my way without hearing the dreaded “lets get your credit info and run the numbers” line. If what I’m trying to accomplish is not possible, she’ll let you know and you will not be wasting your time sitting around.

So, if your looking for a nice used car or a new Mazda or Subaru, drive down to Vic Bailey Imports and ask for Shannon.  It will be well worth your time!
